Tha’ Carter II

Lil%20Wayne%20CD%20Cover.jpgThese days it’s really rare that I’m totally blown away by a rap artist or its even more rare that I feel their whole album. So check the time, jot down the phase of the moon because “Tha Carter II” is an excellent album for a hip hop connoisseur.

I’m going to throw it down, I think Lil’ Wayne is the best MC in the game right now.

Dare I say he’s better than Hov’ at this point I’m going to have to say yes. It’s not because he’s all that much more creative than Jay-Z. It’s just the way it goes in the game, Lil’ Wayne came up listening to Jay-Z’s styles and now he’s building an even greater lyrical repertoire. It’s all good we all have to stand on the shoulders of giants.

Jay will always be a legend, sort of like Jordan but if you put Jordan on the court with Kobe right now, Jordan would be the legend but Kobe has been studying Jordan’s style since he was a kid so he already knows that game and he’s created new styles. Same thing with Lil’ Wayne he grew up on Jay-Z so now it is just natural that he’s going to take the lyricism to the next level.

Before I become flame bait, let me qualify my statement. When Lil’ Wayne puts out his 10th platinum album then he’ll be able to say he has the best rap career but at this point he is defiantly the best rapper in the game.

Why, it’s his fluidity on the mic. It reminds me of how they described Marlin Brando in At the Waterfront, before him; actors were stiff but after Brando, acting changed. While everyone else sounds so practiced, Lil’ Wayne sounds like he just stumbled on stage and started to spit his game. His lyrical style reminds me of Jazz Scat singing, so spontaneous yet till quite musical.

The thing that pulls me in is a mix of his extreme arrogance mixed with actual talent. It sounds like he’s packaging up his absurdity just for the masses, similar to what Wu Tang did back in the day. Give the people what they think they want, Genius.

Dear Mr. Toilet I'm the shit Got these other haters pissed cause my toilet paper thick

So, so true.
