The Red Haired Stranger

|

Willie Nelson is the man.

Must I repeat Willie Nelson is “The Man”.

I’ve never really liked country music all that much except for a little bit of Johnny Cash every now and then, but yesterday one of my coworkers suggested that I take a listen to Willie Nelson’s “Red Haired Stranger”.

It’s a concept album about a Renegade Red Haired Stranger who,

“Had eyes like thunder”,

This is the tale of a man driven mad, because his woman left him for another.

“He cried like a baby, and he screamed like a panther in the middle of the night, and he saddled his pony and he went for a ride. It was the time of the preacher ain the year of 01 and the lesson is over and the killings begun.”

And please

“Don’t cross him, don’t boss him, he’s wild in his sorrow, he’s ridin’, hidin’ his pain. Don’t fight him, don’t spite him, just wait till tomorrow, cause maybe he’ll ride on again”

What.

Ain’t that Gangsta.

I love music that describes complex emotions. This album is hauntingly sparse on words, but it’s dense with emotion. This is one of those albums you won’t fully understand until you’ve had your heart broken

Don’t worry, I’ll cry with you Willie, I’ll cry with you.
