I don't agree with it. Not at all.
I'm not saying if your a cubicle dweller you shouldn't get a tattoo, I'm just saying don't get one where it will be seen.
Why? Well I don't have a scientific reason or even a logical one. Its like this.
Even a tattoo artist will tell you that your fist tattoo shouldn't be somewhere too visible like the neck or the tops of the hands, because you don't know if that will affect your life.
Getting a tattoo has meaning and all but the biggest thing it says to the outside world is "Hey buddy check this out I'm a badass", or however you want to put it. You are telling the average person I'm going to a place you just think about or turn your head from. If you get what I mean. Love it or hate it, its permanent.
If you have to worry about how your coworkers are going to treat you, DON'T DO IT, your not ready.
I've always thought tattoos are for those who don't have to worry about what their coworkers or anyone else thought. In my mind you should be independent before you get something that your worried about. Thats all.
Then there is the other side of the coin, that people who get tattoos shouldn't be discriminated against.
Um maybe not, but dude you chose to get that shit on your neck so I'm choosing not to go to your bank, or I'm choosing not to hire you. You could of controlled where you put it. You could of chosen something else, somewhere else, but got that tattoo, live with it but not here.
Don't get me wrong I have a few tattoo's here and there, and my Father in law has already read me the riot act that its going to stop me from getting a job in the future. But the difference between me and you is I don't give a fuck. I can just wear long sleeves, I can do independent design or I can hit the streets and see what I can find, but I'm ready for that reality and possibility, but I'm not mad at it, because I chose to get covered in tattoos.
I think discrimination has to do with things you can't control hmmm like being black, or being gay, or being white, or having a cleft lip, or even being disabled or blind. Then its bad to discriminate but if you chose to hmmmm . . . . . get a tattoo of a goat on your chest, or maybe chose to get 12 piercings in your face or even if you chose to color your hair pink, then I'm going to discriminate against you.
